Language of Learning and Teaching LOLT

The Language of Learning and Teaching (LOLT) refers to the language used by teachers to instruct and assess learners across all subjects. The LOLT of Vaalpark High is AFRIKAANS and ENGLISH, and are divided as follow:

Grade 8 & 9 learners follow a double medium LOLT, which refers to a dual-language learning and teaching approach, where learners receive instruction in two different languages. This involves using a learner’s home language alongside a first additional language.  The LOLT for Grade 8 & 9 are therefore Afrikaans for Afrikaans-speaking learners, and English for English-speaking learners.

Grade 10, 11 & 12 learners follow a dual-medium LOLT, where instruction involves using two languages within the same classroom, by a single teacher who switches between them throughout the lesson.  Learners have a choice of receiving textbooks, notes and examination papers in either Afrikaans or English.
